Terri Kading Wheeler LCSW RYT/CYI

Certified and Registered 200 hour yoga teacher, Terri is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist in private practice in Racine, WI.  She has been studying the healing powers of yoga since 1994 and has an interest in combining psychotherapy with yoga for anxiety and depression with a specialty in working with the hips. As a student at the Mindful Yoga Studio since 2000, she did a student internship for 3 years before becoming certified from the Himalayan Institute in 2008.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Gentle Yoga
This class is for people with neck, back, shoulder discomfort and seniors who want simple stretches and postures to improve flexibility and health. Learn to breath naturally, calming your nervous system. Appropriate variations are given to students depending on their needs and ability.  Each class ends with a quiet relaxation.

Beginner Yoga/Yoga 1
This class is for those individuals who have never taken a yoga class or enjoy the mellow pace of a beginner class. Focus is given to the back, neck, and shoulders, standing and sitting postures. Using diaphragmatic breathing and warm ups with simple yogic stretches you will learn to relax the muscles of the body and improve overall health and well being. 

Beginner classes work on areas that need attention of the students in the class.  Students learn how to move into each pose and attention is paid to how to move in the body to release areas of tension and to relax into the body.  Learn what to do for your body physically as well as emotionally.  Class works on the components of the sun salutation along with a variety of poses depending on students weekly needs.  Appropriate variations are given to students depending on their needs and ability.  Each class ends with a quiet relaxation.

Yoga 2
This class is for those individuals who have some yoga experience.  Students are asked to have a basic understanding of the sun salutation and diaphragmatic breathing. The focus of this class is to deepen awareness of alignment of the body in asanas (poses) with the use of breath.  Poses are done in a flow or vinyasa style. Students hold poses longer to deepen their experience.  Particular focus in poses are given to feet, knees, hamstrings, quadriceps, hips, and neck to help students develop body/mind awareness.  Many students begin to have a home practice.  Pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation are taught.  Each class ends with a quiet relaxation, meditation, and/or pranayama.

All Levels
This class is open to all levels of students regardless of experience.  Focus on releasing into the poses and working on understanding of alignment and breath to gain stability, balance, and strengthen. Some vinyasa or flow of poses will be done in class.  Each class ends with a quiet relaxation.  Refer to beginner yoga description for more information.


Private and Yoga Therapy Sessions
One on One sessions are wonderful for those who may be intimidated by a class, who want personalized instruction, or have a specific condition. During this time you learn about your body and how the body compensates for injury, tightness, or day to day living.   Special interest to those with health concerns such as asthma, allergies, back issues, cancer, or other health related aliments.  Session are 1 hour.  Fee: $65

Yoga for Children (currently no class)

Teacher:  Terri Kading Wheeler

This class will focus on body awareness, balance, and strength, using a variety of tools including breathing techniques, asanas (yoga postures), relaxation, as well as playful, creative activities. Seeds of wellness cannot be planted too early!
